Shmuelevitz’s role remains unclear: whether he was acting alone; who his handlers were, if, indeed, he had any; and the damage that he did or didn’t do. What is clear to my lunch companion is the role the Biden administration played in the Oct. 7 massacre.

Monday on the social media platform X, British politician Rupert Lowe, Member of Parliament for Great Yarmouth, posted a “Statement from the Rape Gang Inquiry” filled with shocking details of police behaving as “active perpetrators” in the extreme sexual abuse and murder of young British girls “predominantly perpetrated by Pakistani-heritage men.”
Lowe’s statement described testimony from a survivor of Pakistani rape gangs whose ordeal began at age 12. The survivor recalled multiple rapes per day, filmed and then used as blackmail.

AI Blog Post Tanks IBM $30 Billion — and That's the Least Weird Part
This might be the weirdest thing you read all day.
IBM shares cratered by more than 13% during the second half of trading on Monday, shedding more than $30 billion from investors' portfolios. It was the stock's worst single-day performance since the dot-com selloff began more than 25 years ago, and all because of a five-minute blog post by AI startup Anthropic explaining that its Claude Code tool now speaks fluent COBOL.
Wait, wut?
Before we get to the weird stuff, a little background.
In computing terms, COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language) might as well be Attic Greek, ancient and spoken by only a few specialists. But it's also the programming language used in embedded systems in everything from ATMs to airlines to government systems.
Tech analyst Shanaka Anslem Perera wrote on Monday that the COBOL programmers who built those systems "retired decades ago," and that "finding engineers who can even read COBOL gets harder every quarter." He added, "Entire consulting empires existed because the code was too old, too tangled, and too critical to touch. Companies paid IBM billions because the alternative was catastrophic system failure."
In other words, IBM built a multibillion-dollar Castle Wall of Ignorance around its portfolio.
Yet it took just a single blog post to breach those fortifications.

The Muslim Brotherhood has an agent in the Ohio assembly
In a highly anticipated move, the Trump administration designated factions of the global Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations last month, an executive action with profound implications extending beyond the Middle East to America’s heartland. Astonishingly, a Somali-American legislator from Ohio, State Rep. Munira Abdullahi, D-Columbus, continues to serve as a national leader for the Muslim American Society (MAS), a registered nonprofit that federal prosecutors have identified as the “overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.”I'd written about this Abdullahi myself in the past 4 years, and it's clear she doesn't belong in politics anywhere. It remains to be seen if the Trump administration will take any action against her and other such interlopers who don't belong in the USA or any other civilized country.
Abdullahi’s involvement with MAS dates back to at least 2012, when she served as a youth director in Columbus and later as a national program director. The organization’s youth programs have been marred by scandals nationwide, including an incident in Philadelphia where children were taught songs about beheading Israeli Jews, and a fundraiser selling merchandise glorifying Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists. Upon her election to public office in 2022, Abdullahi appeared to distance herself from MAS, updating her LinkedIn profile to indicate she no longer worked for the group.
However, her ties persisted and deepened. Now heading MAS-Columbus and part of the organization’s national leadership, she leverages her elected status to host events featuring ultra-conservative preachers and pro-Hamas activists. Though MAS officially claims independence from the broader Sunni Islamist movement, a 2004 Chicago Tribune investigation exposed how its early leaders decided to conceal their Muslim Brotherhood affiliations while aiming to “convert Americans to Islam and elect like-minded Muslims to political office.”
Campaign finance records underscore this connection: in 2022, Abdullahi received a $1,000 contribution from an MAS colleague and later donated $2,400 from her campaign to MAS-Columbus.

The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's far-reaching global tariffs on Friday, handing him a significant loss on an issue crucial to his economic agenda.The 6-3 decision centers on tariffs imposed under an emergency powers law, including the sweeping "reciprocal" tariffs he levied on nearly every other country.
It's the first major piece of Trump's broad agenda to come squarely before the nation's highest court, which he helped shape with the appointments of three conservative jurists in his first term.
The majority found that the Constitution "very clearly" gives Congress the power to impose taxes, which include tariffs. "The Framers did not vest any part of the taxing power in the Executive Branch," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote.
Except that Congress has also been determined to have the power to delegate this power to Executive decision-making -- which is exactly what Congress did, in granting the President the power to "regulate... importation" in the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented."The tariffs at issue here may or may not be wise policy. But as a matter of text, history, and precedent, they are clearly lawful," Kavanaugh wrote.
Trump called the majority decision "a disgrace" when he was notified during his morning meeting with several governors, according to someone with direct knowledge of the president's reaction, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private conversation.

The majority did not address whether companies could get refunded for the billions they have collectively paid in tariffs. Many companies, including the big-box warehouse chain Costco, have already lined up to demand refunds in lower courts. Kavanaugh noted the process could be complicated.
"The Court says nothing today about whether, and if so how, the Government should go about returning the billions of dollars that it has collected from importers. But that process is likely to be a 'mess,' as was acknowledged at oral argument," he wrote.
The Treasury had collected more than $133 billion from the import taxes the president has imposed under the emergency powers law as of December, federal data shows. The impact over the next decade was estimated at some $3 trillion.

Flashback to late October of 2024: The Democrats’ Insanity Defense.
In the September debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Trump said something so ludicrous that many viewers must have dismissed it out of hand. “She did things that nobody would ever think of,” Trump said, while rattling off a list of some of the vice president’s most radical past positions. “Now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison.”
The idea that the vice president “wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison” seemed so patently absurd that The New Yorker’s Susan Glasser cited it in a column posted the next morning as an example of Trump’s lunacy: “What the hell was he talking about?” Glasser wrote of the trans operation lines. “No one knows, which was, of course, exactly Harris’ point.”
That reaction was understandable—the idea of the operations was, as Trump himself said, a “thing nobody would ever think of.” The problem was that it is true.
The same GOP staffer, who is currently working on a competitive congressional race, told me that one problem his campaign regularly faces is that aspects of Democratic governance are simply too insane for voters to find credible, even when they are documented as official U.S. government policy. “When you outline the Democratic agenda, you have to water it down, because in both polling and focus groups, people just don’t believe it,” he said. “They are critical of things like boys in girls’ sports, but they tune out stuff about schools not informing parents about transitioning their children. They just don’t believe it’s true. It can’t be.”
Another Republican operative made a related point on the failure of the party’s attempt to message on trans issues in 2022, which was that the reality of the procedures was so gruesome that voters simply preferred not to think about it. “Phrases like ‘genital mutilation’ are disgusting and viscerally off-putting, even to voters who may be sympathetic to the Republicans’ position but will just write you off as a freak for talking about it that way.”
A similar dynamic plays out in foreign policy. On the one hand the Democrats conjured out of thin air the claim that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election, which was, we now know, a conspiracy theory concocted by ex-spies and Clinton campaign operatives and seeded in the intelligence agencies and media by the outgoing Obama administration to cripple the new administration. That is to say that it is not a matter of partisan political opinion; it is simply false. Yet as of 2022, nearly half of U.S. voters, and a majority of Democrats, still believed that Trump was elected in 2016 due to Russian interference, and the hoax remains a mainstay of Democratic rhetoric. It even played a major role in the 2020 election, providing the predicate for the Biden campaign to collude with tech companies and retired spooks to censor reporting about Hunter Biden’s foreign influence-peddling schemes, which turned out to be entirely real.
